The Thames: Reading

Wanderlust in Reading

Reading England is a short distance by boat upriver from our former home mooring at Thames & Kennet Marina. It is a convenient place to moor for the night. Pleasant places to tie up can be found on the left bank of the river upstream of the Reading Bridge. Here, across the towpath from the river, is the sprawling lawn of Christchurch Meadows. Reading Station is across the river and London is 35 minutes away by train. A short hump through the metropolis is the Oracle, a modern international-style shopping mall with scores of stores. In between there are plenty of shops, pubs, grocery stores, and restaurants. Most everything you need is a short walk away.

There is one downside. The Thames is as popular with the waterfowl as it is with the boaters. As a result the banks are covered with goose poop. Watch your step!
