Wanderlust heads to the summit of the Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne

Sometimes we find moorings for the night in the midst of the historic old towns. Other times we spend the night tied to the bank amongst France’s idyllic farmlands. And then there are the times when aren’t particular and just need to find a decent place to tie up for the night.

Near the summit of Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne moorings are scarce. Indeed, everything is scarce. There wasn’t an open store or restaurant within range for several days since we started on the Saône end canal. Though we could have staked Wanderlust up to the bank pretty much anywhere, staying on an abandoned industrial quay in Villegusien-le-Lac for the night was easier. Besides I find decaying industrial infrastructure to be oddly attractive.

Abandoned industry is a common sight along France's waterways.
