Vitry-le-François sits on the junction of three canals, the entre Champagne et Bourgogne, and the Marne-Rhine, and the latéral à la Marne. Communes at the intersection of waterways are natural locations to support the waterway life. They are the truck stops of the waterways.
Vitry-le-François has a boatyard and a small port de plaisance. The port was full when we arrived. So instead we moored on an abandoned quay around the corner on the Canal latéral à la Marne. Though the quay was not the most attractive location to spend a night, it is close to an E.Leclerc hypermarché. That’s always a good thing.
(After leaving Orconte Wanderlust traveled 15 kilometers and passed through six locks before arriving in Vitry-le-François at the end of the day on the 2nd of July 2015.)
